Sam Bennett Named MVP as Florida Panthers Win Stanley Cup

Sam Reinhart scored four goals, leading the Florida Panthers to victory against the Edmonton Oilers for the Stanley Cup on Tuesday night. However, it was Sam Bennett who took home the prestigious Conn Smythe Trophy.

Bennett, who didn’t score in Game 6, was recognized as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman after the Panthers’ 5-1 win. Throughout the playoffs, Bennett proved his worth with 15 goals and seven assists, totaling 22 points.

Joining elite company, Bennett is now among players who have also netted at least 15 goals in a single postseason. Names like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Joe Sakic, and Sidney Crosby come to mind—true legends of the sport.

After facing the Oilers in last season’s finals, where the Panthers emerged victorious in seven games, Bennett kicked off this year’s finals with two goals, despite some tough overtime losses. He helped secure a 2-1 series lead for Florida with key goals in Game 2 and Game 3.

The Panthers bolstered their team ahead of the playoffs, adding significant players like Brad Marchand and Seth Jones during the NHL trade deadline. These additions definitely contributed to their journey to the title. Yet, it was the core players—Bennett, Alexander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, and others—who set the tone both on and off the ice.

During the regular season, Bennett put up impressive numbers with 51 points (25 goals, 26 assists) in 76 games. But when it mattered most, he elevated his game, shining in the playoffs.
