Yankees Fall Again Despite Strong Pitching
In a match marked by another quiet performance from the Yankees’ lineup, their pitching could have led to a better fate, but ultimately fell short against the Bronx Angels, losing 4-0.
Will Warren, while not perfect, showed impressive confidence throughout his start. Manager Aaron Boone remarked on the team’s disappointing loss after the game.
Warren struck out a career-high 11 batters over six solid innings but allowed three runs. Much of that damage came from a well-placed hit and a defensive misstep, where DJ LeMahieu couldn’t stop a ground ball from Luis Rengifo, who ended up scoring.
After the innings, Jazz Chisholm Jr. managed to hit two singles off Taylor Ward, though it was a challenging task.
That accounted for all the Angels’ scoring against Warren, who quickly retired the next eleven batters after the hit from Ward. He thrived on his four-seam fastball, getting eight swings and misses and relying on his sinker for consistency.
“That was the best he threw a fastball,” catcher Austin Wells said, reflecting on Warren’s performance.
Boone echoed this, noting how well Warren’s fastball worked, mentioning that it was tricky for the batters to pick up. Warren’s fastball averaged a notable 93.4 mph, and his varied arm slots and deceptive pitches played a significant role in his success.
“I think it’s just being able to place it where I want it from my slot,” Warren commented on his pitching technique.
In other news, Paul Goldschmidt participated in his 2,000th career game, joining the ranks of Andrew McCutchen and Carlos Santana, among others.
Following the game, the Yankees plan to send right-handed pitcher Scott Effross to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, potentially activating JT Brubaker in his place.
Ben Rice returned to the catcher position but remains without a definite date for his game debut, as Boone mentioned the challenges that often arise with new players fitting into the rotation.
On Tuesday, Rice and Trent Grisham sat out, while Jasson Dominguez played left field, Cody Bellinger centered, Goldschmidt took first base, and Stanton served as the designated hitter.
