Louis Guevara, a 19-year-old prospect for the Orioles, tragically died following a jet ski accident in Sarasota, Florida. This was confirmed by the organization on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 8 PM on Sunday when Guevara’s jet ski collided head-on with another watercraft near Lido Key. Reports from the Baltimore Sun noted that information was provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The Orioles expressed their sorrow in a statement, mentioning they were “devastated,” and it has been reported that they postponed games in the Florida Combined League (FCL) that were set for Monday and Tuesday.
“Lewis was a cherished member of our team, and we are heartbroken by his untimely passing,” said Orioles general manager Mike Elias. He added that their thoughts and prayers are with Guevara’s family, friends, and teammates, requesting privacy for them during this hard time.
The accident involved two jet skis that were carrying a total of four individuals, who ended up in the water after the collision, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Local residents assisted officials in getting the victims to shore. While some passengers sustained minor injuries, one individual was hospitalized.

Additionally, he appeared in four games with the rookie league teams and had a stint with Double-A Chesapeake.
His last game was Saturday for the FCL Orioles, where he recorded a 1-for-3 performance.
