Baltimore Orioles minor league infielder Louis Guevara has tragically passed away at the age of 19, according to a statement from the team. Guevara lost his life following a jet ski accident in Lido Key, Florida. Reports indicated that two jet skis collided, resulting in four individuals being thrown into the water.
He was later pronounced dead in the hospital. The organization expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “Louis was a cherished member of our team, and we are heartbroken over his untimely death. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.”
Guevara signed with the Orioles as an international free agent from Venezuela in January 2023. He was moving through the Orioles farm system and primarily played shortstop, along with some time at first and second base.
For two seasons, he played for the Orioles Orange in the Dominican Summer League, and this year, he began with the Eastern League’s Chesapeake Bay Socks before transitioning to the Single-A Carolina League with the Del Marva Shorebirds. In total, Guevara batted .281 with 49 RBIs and stole 41 bases over 114 career minor league games across four teams.
