Senator from GOP criticizes Padilla for being taken down to the ground

Senator Tom Tillis from North Carolina recently took aim at Senator Alex Padilla from California, labeling his actions during a recent Department of Homeland Security press conference as “inappropriate.” Tillis expressed his discontent and described the situation as “disgusting,” particularly given the tension between some Democratic lawmakers.

He mentioned how, inside the press conference venue, it was evident that Padilla was a U.S. Senator, and he felt that, once removed from the situation, Padilla should have been treated with respect. “It was disgusting to see someone wrestling on the floor, especially U.S. Senators in federal buildings,” Tillis remarked on Wednesday.

During the event, Padilla was reportedly escorted out by federal agents and was handcuffed after he attempted to pose questions while Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem was speaking. Tillis criticized Padilla, suggesting that there are appropriate ways to address concerns, saying, “I think that’s inappropriate… Senator Padilla should have found a better way to raise concerns for the Secretary of Homeland Security.”

In response, Padilla stood by his actions, stating that such treatment of senators raises concerns about how immigrants are treated. “If this is how this administration responds to senators with questions, then I can only imagine what they are doing to day laborers in the Los Angeles community, across California and the country,” he said at another press conference.

Tillis also issued a warning to his fellow elected officials, urging them to reconsider their approaches toward federal law enforcement policies. He stated, “I now threaten people who think they can act out of line to interrupt press conferences; they should think twice.” He encouraged lawmakers to focus on leadership and policy-making through the proper channels, rather than through disruptive actions. “That’s how this place works,” he concluded.
