Dodgers vs. Padres: A Night of Controversy and Hits

Tuesday brought a competitive matchup between the Dodgers and the Padres, with multiple batters finding themselves on the receiving end of pitches. The spotlight, of course, was on Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani faced off against Padres pitcher Randy Vazquez in the bottom of the third inning, leading to some heated exchanges and tense moments.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts found himself ejected after a lengthy argument with the umpires. Initially, he conversed with second-base umpire Marvin Hudson before moving on to a fiery discussion with third-base umpire Trent Gibson.

In a post-game press conference, Roberts was questioned about whether he believed the hit on Ohtani was intentional. He responded emphatically, “Absolutely. Absolutely. If they feel it’s guaranteed on their side… we own it. And we move on. But it’s not a misfire. I feel it’s intentional.”

Ohtani wasn’t the only one involved in this night of drama; he was one of three batters who were struck by pitches during the game, which the Dodgers ultimately won 8-6.

The first notable incident occurred when Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a 95 mph fastball in the third inning. Soon after, Ohtani himself received a pitch to the foot, resulting in warnings being issued to both teams.

In the seventh inning, Dodgers’ Matt Thorer hit Raul Iglesias with a pitch as tempers flared once again. The Padres dugout expressed frustration, hoping the previous warnings would lead to consequences, but the umpire deemed Iglesias wasn’t intentionally hit.

This narrative of tension began the night before when Dodgers’ Andy Page was hit. He claimed it was deliberate, while Padres pitcher Dylan argued it was simply part of the game. The following night, Page certainly found a way to respond, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs.
