Former NFL Player Henry Laggs Released from Prison
Henry Laggs, a former NFL player, was released from prison on Tuesday to attend the Hope for the Prisoners event in Las Vegas. Laggs, who was selected as the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, faced serious consequences after being involved in a tragic crash in which he killed Tina Tintle and her dog. This incident occurred shortly after he participated in his 20th NFL game.
In August 2023, Laggs was sentenced to a term of 3 to 10 years in prison, with the possibility of parole in August 2026. Almost four years after the accident, he made an emotional apology to Tintle’s family during the event, expressing a deep sense of regret. He remarked, “I wish I could get one hand back in time,” hoping to show them the true person he is beyond the headlines and media portrayal.
Laggs had previously addressed the court during his sentencing, stating that his actions were not a true reflection of who he is. He pleaded guilty to felony DUI resulting in death, as well as misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. He was reportedly driving at an astonishing speed of 156 mph in a Corvette when the crash occurred. The collision with a Toyota RAV4 resulted in a fire that led to both Tina’s and her golden retriever Max’s deaths.
At the hospital following the incident, Laggs’ blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.161, which is significantly above Nevada’s legal limit. Additionally, Chiara Genai Kilgo Washington, who was in the vehicle with him, sustained injuries as well. They had been reportedly drinking at a nearby venue earlier that evening before the crash happened around 3:39 a.m.
This case has underscored the serious consequences of impaired driving and its effects on lives and families. Laggs’ journey moving forward will likely be closely monitored as he seeks to rebuild his life after such a devastating event.
