The challenges keeping the Rams from reuniting with Jalen Ramsey

The Rams face several challenges if they’re considering a reunion with Jalen Ramsey.

This was mentioned by head coach Sean McVay, who noted on Tuesday that while the Rams “want to rule out anything,” working out a trade for Ramsey—who’s currently available through the Dolphins—won’t be straightforward.

“Typically, these situations require some planning before decisions can be put into action,” McVay said during a mini-camp for Maui’s team, as reported by NFL.com.

“If we can accomplish that, we don’t want to completely dismiss any opportunities because we’re always eager to attract quality players like him. However, there are genuine obstacles that could hinder this from happening.”

Ramsey, originally a first-round pick for the Jaguars in 2016, was acquired by the Rams in the early part of the 2019 season. He helped the team win a Super Bowl in February 2022 but was traded to the Dolphins in March 2023.

At 30, Ramsey signed a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension with Miami in September 2024, though less than a year later, the team announced they were exploring trade options.

Last season, he missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016, with a tally of two interceptions and 11 pass deflections.

His cap hit for 2025 stands at $16.6 million.

Currently, Ramsey has chosen to stay away from the Dolphins while this issue is being addressed.

As for the Rams, the reigning NFC West champions are gearing up for a 10-7 season ahead of another playoff run.

They were eliminated by the Eagles, who went on to win the Super Bowl in the divisional round.

The Rams are scheduled to face the Texans in the first week of the upcoming season.

It remains uncertain if Ramsey will find a new team before the regular season kicks off.
