Trump Responds to Iran’s Supreme Leader

In Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump addressed comments from Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who stated that Iran would not acquiesce to demands, calling Trump’s assertion that there may be an understanding regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities ironic.

During a session on Wednesday, while overseeing the installation of a nearly 100-foot flagpole at the White House, Trump was asked by a reporter about Khamenei’s declaration. “What’s your message to the Iranian supreme leader who claims they won’t back down?”

“Good luck,” Trump replied straightforwardly.

He later mentioned that the U.S. is aware of where Khamenei is situated, asserting that the country currently has comprehensive control over Iran’s airspace. Trump remarked that Khamenei is an “easy target,” indicating that while he is secure at the moment, he wouldn’t take action against him—at least not right now.

Returning from a G7 summit in Alberta, Canada, Trump expressed concern over escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. He noted that Iran believes it is “very close” to obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran failed to meet a 60-day deadline that concluded recently to reach an agreement with the U.S. regarding its nuclear program. Meanwhile, Israel has initiated strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and military operations.

When questioned about the possibility of a strike on Iran’s nuclear sites, Trump responded thoughtfully, “Do you really think I’m going to divulge that?” He continued, suggesting that plans could be in motion but nothing is certain, indicating uncertainty about his next steps.

Trump added that Iran appears to be inclined towards negotiations and mentioned he is open to discussions. When pressed about whether it is too late for talks, he confidently stated, “Nothing is too late.”
