Costco Fans Miss the Churro

This summer, Costco has introduced some new food court items, but many longtime fans seem to be yearning for the classics, particularly the iconic $1 churro.

A wave of discussion on Reddit has revealed just how attached some Costco customers are to this treat, with the subreddit dedicated to Costco boasting over 1.3 million members. Churros have been part of Costco’s menu off and on for years, but they disappeared in early 2024, making space for the double chocolate chunk cookies, which were priced at $1.49.

A Reddit post lamenting the loss of the churro recently gained a lot of attention, racking up around 5,500 likes and being commented on by over 300 people. One user asked, “Who will miss the churro????” while others chimed in with their memories.

“I miss the churro. They were fantastic when they were fresh and crispy,” one user shared. “Nothing really compares to the churro.” Another chimed in, saying, “The folks in San Antonio certainly miss them.”

Interestingly, while some praised the churros, others claimed they haven’t been the same since the 1990s. “They were good back in the day, but something changed,” one user wrote. Another nostalgically recalled, “The churros from the 90s were way better than what we get now.”

On a different note, some customers are asking for the return of the pretzels that used to share menu space with the churros. One pointed remark stated, “Pretzels were a much better option, honestly.” A particularly passionate user declared, “I’ll complain about the pretzel replacement until I’m no longer around.”

The low price point probably contributes to the enduring desire for the churro as well. Since 1985, Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog has remained steadfast in pricing, which keeps customers coming back for more affordable treats.

This summer also saw Costco announce the return of a combo pizza but with a twist. They recently rolled out a calzone filled with a wide range of ingredients, including pepperoni and sausage, priced at $6.99. Additionally, they now offer frozen strawberry lemonade at $2.99, though reactions have been mixed.

“It’s refreshing but a bit too sweet for my taste,” mentioned one member. Another noted, “It’s a tad tart, but quite enjoyable!” Yet, as always, the nostalgic call for churros lingered in various comments.

One customer bluntly remarked, “I just want my churro back,” highlighting that, even amid some new offerings, the longing for beloved snacks remains strong.

Costco has yet to respond to inquiries about the churro’s potential return.
