Second Suspect Arrested in Glenview Armed Robbery Case
In April, a viral video showed a couple in suburban Chicago facing a terrifying armed robbery outside their home. Recently, police announced the arrest of a second suspect linked to that incident.
According to officials in Glenview, Illinois, 21-year-old Amarion Ray Williams was apprehended by Chicago police and subsequently taken to the Glenview Police Department on Monday. He faces charges for armed robbery involving a firearm.
WFLD-TV reported that Williams is currently under the jurisdiction of the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, with details concerning his next hearing set for Tuesday. Authorities have yet to identify the final suspect involved in the robbery that gained significant media attention.
On Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Ray Williams remains in custody without bail. Earlier this month, it was reported that the first suspect arrested in connection with the case, 26-year-old Angelo Hatter from Chicago, was also charged with armed robbery. Jail records reportedly do not indicate Hatter’s bail status, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 2nd.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed how they connected Hatter and Williams to the robbery.
In the original incident, which occurred on April 21st around 10pm, a video captured Greg Poulos and Angie Berthos as they returned to their Glenview home after dining in Chicago. The couple was approached by three armed men who demanded their belongings. Poulos later shared that one of the assailants yelled at them to hand over everything they had.
The couple complied, and the unsettling footage showed one of the robbers ordering them to “give me all the stuff.” Poulos and Berthos promptly dropped their phones and keys, with Berthos surrendering his wallet as well.
“You got it. Here, take it. Take it all,” Poulos was heard saying in a clip recorded during the incident. In the aftermath, Berthos mentioned she even started tossing shoes and coats at the assailants.
Poulos reflected on the experience, urging that life is far more valuable than any material possession. Unfortunately, the ordeal didn’t conclude after the robbery. The video depicted them lying face down as the robbers pointed guns at them, leaving the couple to wonder about the outcome.
Police reported that the robbers fled the scene in a Jaguar SUV, adding to the complexity of the investigation.
Glenview, positioned around 40 minutes northwest of Chicago, is often recognized as a desirable place to live, particularly for retirees, thanks to its numerous dining options, shopping areas, and well-regarded public schools.
Poulos mentioned to reporters that it’s essential for people to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Reactions from local workers near where the robbery occurred echoed feelings of shock and detachment, with one employee admitting to feeling “numb” after hearing about the arrest of the suspects.
“It’s just the path of the world,” another worker commented, reflecting on the disturbing reality of such violence in everyday life.
