Singer Who Performed National Anthem in Spanish Reports Receiving Death Threats

Vanessa Hernandez Faces Threats After Singing National Anthem in Spanish

Vanessa Hernandez, known by her stage name Netza and as a social media influencer, reports she has been receiving death threats since her rendition of the national anthem in Spanish at a Dodgers game last weekend.

Last Saturday, over 51,000 fans were surprised as she performed El Pendon Estrellado, the official Spanish translation of the American national anthem.

In a TikTok video shared by Netza, some Dodgers staff members can be heard saying, “I’m trying to do a song in English today, so I don’t know if that wasn’t broadcast.” The video showcases her performance of El Pendon Estrellado, with a caption stating, “I did it anyway.”

During an interview with TMZ Sports, she mentioned receiving threats from those who labeled her performance as “disorienting.”

According to TMZ Sports, while the death threats are understandably alarming, Netza views them with a certain perspective, suggesting that in the age of the internet, people’s reactions can be quite intense.

Some Californians have criticized her actions as disrespectful, even as she identifies as a proud American. She expressed that for her, performing in LA was a dream come true. Additionally, it seems she has a few choice words for her detractors. The backlash appears to echo sentiments that have often surfaced regarding such performances. The video shows the Dodgers denying her, as her boyfriend captured a sound check. There was a moment where she had to witness her own performance again in English while a Dodgers representative looked on.

Netza also claims the team informed her, “I will never be allowed at that stadium again.” However, this statement contradicts what a team spokesman told the LA Times, clarifying that there have been no restrictions or bans placed on her.
