Tennessee Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Minors’ Sexual Change

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti discussed a recent ruling by the Tennessee Supreme Court during an interview with Breitbart News. The court, in a 6-3 decision, upheld state laws prohibiting sexual change procedures for minors, which Skrmetti viewed as a significant victory.

The Supreme Court ruled that Tennessee’s Senate Bill 1 does not infringe upon the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. When asked about the implications of this ruling, Skrmetti expressed his support for other states with comparable laws, indicating that they could face similar legal battles in protecting children.

“It’s encouraging that about half of the states have similar laws,” he remarked. “These statutes are designed to withstand constitutional challenges based on equal protection. It’s a measure that has been taken,” he added.

Skrmetti suggested that this ruling could bring more attention to the scientific practices involved in this issue and remarked on efforts to “silence research.” He highlighted concerns about major transgender health organizations allegedly stifling studies that indicate potential harm to children.

“What we see is that the primary transgender health groups have been suppressing research showing adverse effects on children. They’ve influenced how research is presented to favor their ideological agenda,” he explained, suggesting that the ruling serves to “pop bubbles” of misinformation.

He emphasized that this legal win signifies that the Constitution should not be manipulated to push ideological causes that the public has not endorsed through voting. According to him, the judiciary acknowledges the autonomy of individuals, affirming that the Constitution does not advocate for those twisted narratives.

In his closing remarks, Skrmetti noted that many people have been misled by those claiming to represent scientific interests, yet in reality, they may have altered data to fit their ideological objectives.
