It seems there’s some truth to the rumors.
Pop star Rizzo has opened up about trying Ozempic and other popular weight loss medications after previously denying that she resorted to drugs for weight loss.
“That’s not an easy thing to admit,” Rizzo revealed during a chat on the “Just Trish” podcast with Trisha Paytas.
The artist shared her real name, Melissa Vivian Jefferson, and mentioned she’s “tried everything” in her efforts to shed pounds. Instead of opting for a weekly injection, she tends to focus on counting calories.
“For me, it’s all about the science—calories in, calories out,” Rizzo explained. “Ozempic helps because it reduces hunger. It’s that straightforward. If you can manage it on your own, you might see similar results without the medication.”
Paytas expressed curiosity about how the 37-year-old managed her food intake without the shot.
The singer, known for her hit “All About That Bass,” indicated that she’s adjusted her workout regimen and has moved away from a vegan diet.
“Being vegan meant I was eating a lot of processed meat substitutes, bread, and rice. I was consuming close to 3,000 to 5,000 calories daily,” she admitted.
She also acknowledged that returning to a meat-inclusive diet has been beneficial. Rizzo noticed considerable satisfaction from wholesome foods like beef, chicken, and fish during her travels in Japan.
“Japanese cuisine is hailed as one of the healthiest globally,” she reflected. “My body seemed to thrive on it, almost asking for more. I realized this is what I genuinely enjoy.”
Though Rizzo has been a proponent of body positivity throughout her career, she expressed hesitation about sharing too much regarding her weight loss journey, wanting to avoid steering others down a path that might not suit them.
While she didn’t specify which GLP-1 medication she tried or when, common options include Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Ozempic, initially developed to aid those with type 2 diabetes.
Her recent revelations come after the singer previously denied using Ozempic, stating, “When I finally began the Ozempic after five months of focused fitness and a calorie deficit,” she shared in an Instagram post back in September 2024.
Rizzo has been transparent about her journey on social media, often addressing rumors about her use of GLP-1 medications in her weight loss efforts. In April, she took to TikTok to announce she had lost 16% of her body fat, mentioning her daily Starbucks routine and a focus on calorie management.
