Israeli Defense Minister Issues Warning to Hezbollah
On Friday, the Israeli defense minister cautioned Hezbollah against participating in conflicts related to Iran, stating that the group’s leader “hasn’t learned anything from those who came before him.”
Israel Katz, the Israeli Defense Minister, expressed concerns after Hezbollah’s chief criticized Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran. He remarked, “I urge Lebanese operatives to be cautious and realize that Israel has lost its patience with terrorists threatening our safety.”
Katz commented on Hassan Nasrallah, the current Hezbollah leader, indicating that he’s not learning from the fate of his predecessor, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last September.
Naim Qassem, who assumed leadership of Hezbollah in October, proclaimed that the group “will act in ways that strike a balance” amidst the Israel-Iran conflict.
Hezbollah has declared its full support for Iran, asserting that any threat to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would result in “disastrous consequences.”
The group described the threat against Khamenei as not only reckless but also as a significant offense to millions of Muslims. “To even mention it is a crime that deserves condemnation. We are more united and determined than ever,” they stated.
Since June 13, Israel has initiated airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities out of fear that their long-time adversary may be on the brink of developing nuclear weapons.
In response, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, escalating the conflict between the two nations.
On Thursday, an Iranian missile strike caused damage to Soroka Medical Center and targeted several high-rise buildings near Tel Aviv, injuring at least 240 people, with four in critical condition, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.
Early Friday morning, Israeli officials reported an incoming missile barrage from Iran.
In the previous Iranian airstrike, 639 people were reportedly killed.
The ongoing tensions have led to concerns that additional military action could escalate further, prompting discussions for special envoy meetings between Lebanese officials.
A statement from a special envoy emphasized that attacking Israel would be a “very bad decision” for any involved terrorist groups.
Amidst these developments, President Trump indicated that he would be making a decision in the upcoming weeks regarding a potential military response against Iran, while still expressing an interest in negotiations.
During a daily briefing, White House Press Officer Karolyn Leavitt relayed Trump’s assertion that Iran is poised to create nuclear weapons at any moment, emphasizing that all that’s needed is a directive from the Supreme Leader.
Iran, for its part, has stated that it will not entertain discussions about its nuclear program during Israeli attacks.
Israel is specifically seeking cooperation to target the Fordow nuclear facility, which is concealed deep within Iran’s mountains.
On Friday, foreign ministers from the EU, including representatives from the UK, France, and Germany, are set to meet with Iran’s Foreign Minister, hoping to de-escalate the ongoing conflict.
