“Her royal title and the Sussex name definitely play a role in promoting her brand,” said British broadcaster Helena Chard. “She relies on this to sustain herself. Fame and wealth are crucial for her. It’s like she’s juggling different ideas, hoping one will yield the financial success she needs.”
Chard emphasized that although Markle won’t get rich from basic products, they may still attract interest. She teased a new product drop with “some delicious surprises.”
The brand features items like raspberry spreads, specialty teas, and even unique honey blends.
Chard made these remarks following insights from Royal Expert Valentine Row’s 2023 book, *Courtiers*, which suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left royal life for “freedom to generate income and dabble in politics.” It noted that Markle seemed eager to “build financial independence.”
After stepping back from senior royal duties in 2020, the couple relocated to Montecito, California, citing privacy issues with the British press and lack of support from the palace. They later reportedly signed a five-year deal with Netflix, and their Spotify contract is valued between $15 million and $18 million.
Before moving, they mentioned the idea of “taking time off” to figure things out, according to the UK Daily Mail. Law, the author, also claimed the couple believed they were more suited to certain royal roles yet still wanted to retain a level of independence.
Critics have raised doubts about Markle’s ability to thrive. Law noted that her only way to find freedom was to leave royal obligations behind.
