Karen Bass Advocates More for Immigrants than She Has for Local Residents

Los Angeles Mayor’s Attempted Comeback Amid Controversy

Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass seems to be in a challenging position following the Palisade fire incident. Despite this, she is now striving to rebuild her reputation by defending those protesting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Bass has been quite active recently, especially after escalating tensions resulted in violence against police during protests against ICE actions related to undocumented individuals. Some have been critical of ICE in Los Angeles, labeling it as brutal. The unrest has led many to advocate for the dismantling of ICE, while Bass is trying to address the violence.

One wonders, if only she had shown this kind of commitment to the residents of Pacific Palisades, perhaps they would have seen more support in rebuilding after the fire.

It’s quite unusual to witness significant support from Democratic leaders for the riots. It feels a bit like those “mostly peaceful protests” that seemed to avoid penalties in previous elections. Ironically, they often ignore the border issues that people are concerned about.

The media landscape appears heavily skewed towards sensational stories about ICE, many of which lack accuracy.

Recently, Bass endorsed a misleading article suggesting that ICE agents were present at Dodger Stadium, falling into a series of exaggerated claims promoted by Democrats. When questioned about the details, she chose to deflect blame towards President Trump, accusing him of causing confusion and disorder in Los Angeles.

While she condemned the violence against law enforcement and property damage, she indirectly suggested that the riots might not completely cease until certain conditions change.

Bass expressed that this situation needs resolution, claiming it could be addressed at the federal level while distancing herself from local law enforcement responsibilities.

Local media have been framing the narrative around public fear of ICE actions, but the real concern might be different. People in downtown LA seem more worried about rising homelessness and crime, which have transformed the area into something reminiscent of a less developed nation. It’s not even just in downtown; crime is escalating in neighborhoods previously considered safe.

I recall a moment in Beverly Wood when I was at a stoplight, and a homeless individual began banging on my car window while my kids were inside. It was alarming, to say the least.

I was in Beverly Wood because of a fire emergency. No firefighters were around, and crucial infrastructure like fire hydrants seemed to be out of service, creating chaos even in the most affluent areas.

The homelessness crisis in LA appears to overshadow other concerns, with the city reportedly allocating more resources to homeless services than to fire prevention. Ironically, some fires are reportedly started by the homeless. Bass has scarcely addressed these issues effectively.

The parallels between the homelessness crisis and the ICE upheaval suggest that Bass and the Democrats may prioritize supporting undocumented individuals over the rights and needs of legal residents, especially homeowners who contribute to the tax base.

Residents of Pacific Palisades have gained a harsh insight into these dynamics, with legal residents feeling overlooked and undervalued despite their contributions.

Yet, maybe voters in LA tend to forget quickly. That fire incident primarily affected apparently “wealthy” individuals, while ICE still stands as a target for Democratic ire.

Bass, along with Governor Newsom and Senator Adam Schiff, seems to believe that opposing Trump offers more political leverage than collaboration.

Newsom has publicly criticized Trump’s decisions, framing them as illegal, despite recent ruling against him in the courts. His narrative hasn’t shifted much even after facing legal challenges over handling the wildfire crisis.

Bass appears to be employing a similar tactic, using her opposition to the Trump administration and the riots as covers for her shortcomings.

From the looks of it, her strategy is bearing fruit. She is gearing up for reelection next year, and curiously, she might just pull it off.

Meanwhile, LA is preparing to host the 2028 Olympics amidst ongoing unrest. One might wonder what Bass thinks about this—probably too much to blame Trump for, somehow.
