Poll Reveals Majority of Americans Want Disclosure of President’s Health Records
A recent poll indicates that many American adults believe the president should release his medical records, especially following former President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race amid concerns over his cognitive abilities.
A significant 74% of respondents from various political affiliations—Democrats, Republicans, and independents—feel it’s essential for the president to provide health information. The Axios/Ipsos survey, published on Friday, highlights a marked public skepticism regarding Biden’s mental and physical health that officials had tried to downplay in the past.
In the latest findings, 81% of adults indicated that they believe the president ought to face illness screenings and cognitive assessments, with results made public.
This follows Biden’s disclosure in May about being diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Some medical professionals have suggested that Biden may have kept his health issues a secret during his presidency.
Concerns regarding Biden’s communication abilities were notably raised during a 2024 debate with Donald Trump, where he struggled to form coherent sentences. He ultimately withdrew from the presidential race in July 2024, expressing support for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
As the end of his term approached, Biden’s aides increasingly managed his daily activities and shielded him from public engagement. Reports suggested that staff had begun giving him “basic instructions” at events, a stark indication of his declining capacity.
Additionally, there were discussions among Biden’s team about the possibility of using a wheelchair due to his deteriorating condition. This has raised alarms within his circle, with reports suggesting that his allies were bracing for even more serious health complications ahead of the 2024 election.
Conversely, a memo from White House doctors in April confirmed that President Donald Trump, at 79, remains in “good cognitive and physical health,” scoring perfectly on cognitive tests.
The White House has not responded to inquiries for comment on these findings.
