Ted Cruz States That Genesis 12:3 Motivates His Backing for Israel

In an intense discussion with Tucker Carlson, conservative commentator and Texas Senator Ted Cruz emphasized the significance of supporting Israel in light of the ongoing conflict with Hamas and tensions with Iran.

AIPAC allegations and accusations of anti-Semitism

The dialogue kicked off when Carlson questioned Cruz about a campaign contribution from the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Carlson accused Cruz of lobbying on behalf of foreign interests. In response, Cruz hinted at an underlying anti-Semitic sentiment in Carlson’s critique, suggesting that questioning support for Israel reflected poorly on Carlson’s intentions.

Cruz noted that his support for Israel is deeply rooted in the Bible. He recounted the teachings he received growing up, saying, “As a Christian, I learned that those who bless Israel are blessed, and those who curse Israel are cursed.” His reference was to Genesis 12:3.

Discussions on the Bible and political allegiance

Carlson challenged Cruz’s interpretation, asking, “Are we talking about supporting the Israeli government?”

“What those who bless Israel mean is the nation itself, not just its government,” Cruz replied.

Carlson pressed further on Cruz’s theological beliefs, questioning his grasp of biblical texts. After Cruz struggled to pinpoint specific chapters, Carlson remarked, “You’re quoting something from the Bible without context. I’m confused… I want to understand your perspective.”

Cruz retorted, asserting that scripture commands believers to support Israel. But Carlson interrupted, asking, “Are Christians ordered to support the Israeli government?”

Cruz responded by suggesting that while the political entity of Israel is relatively recent, the biblical references about the Jewish people have a long-standing significance. “Yes, most people get that Genesis refers to the Jewish people,” Cruz argued.

Carlson inquired about what it means for Christians today, emphasizing the current Israeli state. Cruz hesitated, stating, “I’m sharing my personal motivations. I won’t use my faith as a reason to support Israel because not all of those I represent share my beliefs.”

The exchange sparked significant attention on social media, highlighting the complexities of American political discussions.

This two-hour conversation covered various topics, including the war involving Iran, Russia, Ukraine, and Syria’s future, and has drawn considerable attention online.
