Barry Morphew Charged with Murder of His Wife

Barry Morphew has been indicted on first-degree murder charges related to the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew. The 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office informed that Morphew, 49, was arrested in Arizona and is set to be extradited to Colorado. Suzanne Morphew disappeared while cycling on Mother’s Day in 2020.

Her remains were located by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation in 2023 in Sagacchi County, which is located in the southwestern region of Colorado.

“Law enforcement at all levels has been dedicated to seeking justice for Suzanne,” noted Ankelly, the District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District. “Our office stands united with Suzanne’s family and the community of Chaffee County in our efforts to move forward with this prosecution.”

Details on Barry Morphew’s Legal Situation

The Chaffey County Sheriff’s Office reported that Barry Morphew has bonds set at $3 million.

Mystery Surrounds Suzanne Morphew’s Remains

A recently released indictment reveals that many of Suzanne’s bones appeared “significantly bleached” when they were discovered. Prosecutors have indicated that this makes it nearly impossible to ascertain specifics about the manner of her death at the site where her body was found.

Chemicals—specifically butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine—were detected in Suzanne Morphew’s system. Prosecutors allege that Barry Morphew used these chemicals, typically intended for sedating deer on a farm, to handle the situation surrounding his wife’s disappearance.

This story is still developing.
