Danon Critiques Iran at UN Security Council
Following Tehran’s request for an emergency session of the UN Security Council to address Israeli airstrikes, Israeli envoy Danny Danon sharply criticized his Iranian counterpart, calling him a “wolf pretending to be a diplomat.” He made it clear that these attacks wouldn’t cease until Israel’s conditions were met.
During his address to the Security Council on Friday, Danon placed responsibility for regional tensions squarely on Iran. He condemned the regime for its role in orchestrating global terrorism while simultaneously seeking international sympathy.
Danon questioned how the Iranian government could expect the world to protect it from the fallout of what he termed a “genocide agenda.” He directly addressed the Iranian ambassador, Amir Sayed Irabani, stating that Iranian leaders have long called for the destruction of both Israel and the United States, framing these aggressive statements as fundamental policies.
He highlighted various Iranian operations, including alleged assassination attempts on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, as well as actions against Jewish communities worldwide.
Danon claimed, “Innocent blood still drips from your hands,” and accused Iran of seeking empathy while plotting violence against his people. He dismissed Tehran’s appeal as both manipulative and insincere, asserting that enough was enough regarding their theatrics.
He further questioned how the council could entertain representatives from a government that funds and organizes global fears, stating, “It’s like a wolf complaining when the shepherd fights back to protect his flock.”
Emphasizing that Iran was not a victim but rather actively dangerous, he remarked, “You are not even a diplomat.” Danon also referred to the Iranian missile strike on Soroka Medical Center, calling it a war crime aimed at innocent civilians. The hospital serves a diverse population, making the attack especially egregious, he asserted.
Danon warned that Iran’s advancing missile capabilities posed a threat not only to Europe but could potentially reach the US East Coast in no time.
“Iran is not only building capacity; it uses it,” he told the council. He emphasized that Israel would never allow Iran to establish a firm foothold. In what he termed one of his most poignant moments, Danon addressed the double standards Israel faces in international relations.
Aligning with German Prime Minister Mertz, he clarified that Israel’s actions were not just defensive but a matter of global importance. “This is not just a battle of Israel; it is a battle of the world,” he concluded. “If no one else can fight it, I will.”
