Dan Bucatinsky discusses the possibility of a third season of 'The Comeback'

The Comeback Season 3: Hints of a Possible Return

It’s an idea I really cherish. After two decades since HBO introduced the beloved sitcom The Comeback, fans might just be gearing up for a potential Season 3.

The original series premiered in 2005, and it returned for a second season in 2014.

“I love it,” said the 59-year-old actress at the 2025 Astra Awards. “I really do. It’s a topic that comes up often, so I hope something happens.”

While there hasn’t been any official announcement from the network regarding a reboot, it seems that Kudrow, along with other cast members, is open to the idea.

“We frequently talk about it,” confessed the alum of Scandal. “If there’s any consultation happening, I’m not at liberty to say, but we definitely discuss it and would all be excited for it.”

The sitcom also showcased talents like Damien Young, Lance Barber, and Robert Bagnell. Robert Michael Morris, who portrayed Kudrow’s hairdresser Mickey Deane, sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 77.

Bucatinsky, who has collaborated with Kudrow several times, recalled a memorable scene from the second season. “One of my favorites was in her trailer, where Billy, overwhelmed, throws his phone across the room. That was such a classic moment.”

“It truly highlighted a spokesperson struggling to cope with her emotions,” he continued, reminiscing about the fun they had during filming.

Kudrow was nominated for an Emmy for her lead role in the first season in 2006 and again in 2015 for the second season.

Michael Patrick King, known for creating satirical comedies about the entertainment industry, has also engaged in discussions with Kudrow about bringing Valerie Cherish back.

“Whenever we share ideas, there’s always enthusiasm,” the 70-year-old director remarked in a recent discussion, noting the show’s 20th anniversary. “It would take the right circumstances for us to say, ‘Yes, let’s do this.’”

Looking at 2025, Kudrow believes that the relevance of the show could be even stronger given today’s reality TV landscape.

“It’s a lot more relatable now,” she noted. “I’ve seen things like The Real Housewives. It really reflects what some women are willing to endure.”

Bucatinsky, meanwhile, is eyeing a different direction for his career.

“I want to play the villain,” he expressed. “Whether that’s a criminal, a cop, or some mix, I think it could be fun.” He mentioned that he’s eager to work with both familiar faces and new ones in future projects.

“I had a blast working with Corey Hawkins in 24: Legacy. I’d love to team up again,” he shared. “But Lisa Kudrow has been a lifelong friend and collaborator, and I’d be thrilled to work with her again. I’ve been lucky to connect with some really strong women.”

Currently, Bucatinsky is involved with Season 4 of HBO’s Hacks, featuring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder.

“The camaraderie I’ve built with Jean and Hannah has been one of the highlights for me,” he said with warmth. “I cherish our friendship, and it’s a joy to interact with them both on and off the set.”

Reflecting on their experiences, he added, “There were countless conversations in our little green room, sharing snacks and advice and, of course, talking about life—movies, pets, and even doctor recommendations.”
