Sen. Padilla addresses VP Vance referring to him as 'Jose' during LA press conference

Sen. Padilla Responds to VP Vance’s Remarks

Senator Alex Padilla from California has spoken out against Vice President J.D. Vance, who referred to him as “Jose” during a press conference in Los Angeles on Friday. This comment has led to significant backlash from Democrats nationwide.

Padilla faced removal during a press event involving Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem on June 12 after tensions escalated. He criticized his Republican peers for, well, ostensibly ignoring serious issues while engaging in what he described as a “spectacle” of their own creation.

On Saturday, Padilla highlighted how Vance’s choice of words reflects the Trump administration’s “little” mindset regarding significant matters.

He pointed out, “He knows my name. As the Vice President, you’d think he’d take the situation in Los Angeles more seriously.” Padilla also criticized Vance for not recognizing real issues on the ground, especially considering his family in Los Angeles is understandably anxious about the administration’s deportation strategies.

Furthermore, Padilla mentioned that some Marines deployed to Los Angeles to manage protests against ICE were reportedly discontent with their assignment.

“Did he listen to the Marines?” Padilla questioned. “I reported back about their experiences after the incident. That’s not what they signed up for.”

Continuing his critique, Padilla expressed his disappointment in Vance’s failure to engage with relevant community leaders in Los Angeles, such as the County Sheriff or the Police Chief. He urged Vance to hear their concerns about disorganization and the negative effects of current policies.
