House Democrat Leader Criticizes Trump’s Actions in the Middle East
On Saturday night, House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed that he felt he had “failed” to bring peace to the Middle East, following President Donald Trump’s order to bombard Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In a written statement, Jeffries commented, “Donald Trump promised peace in the Middle East but has not delivered. The risk of war has surged, and I am praying for the safety of our troops in dangerous areas.”
He accused President Trump of misleading the public regarding his intentions, asserting that he did not seek Congressional approval for military action, thereby entangling America in a potentially disastrous conflict.
Jeffries outlined three responsibilities that he believes the Trump administration must address: first, explaining to Americans why the military action was taken; second, providing Congress with a thorough, classified briefing; and third, acknowledging that Trump bears full responsibility for the negative fallout of his unilateral military decision.
Other House Democrats quickly voiced their concerns. Representative Greg Casar asserted that Trump is dragging the nation into yet “another endless foreign war.”
“Congress must act promptly to limit war powers and prevent unconstitutional military engagements,” Casar urged, supporting the resolutions introduced by Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna aimed at curtailing military action regarding Iran.
He stressed, “Military strikes do not lead to peace. They only result in increased violence, destabilizing the region and risking the safety of U.S. troops and civilians. We’ve seen this before—when diplomacy is ignored, it only brings about more destruction.”
He continued, “When Congress reconvenes, an immediate vote is essential on the resolutions put forward by Representative Thomas Massie and Senator Tim Kaine. Americans are weary of ongoing conflicts.”
Concerns about the constitutionality of the attack on Iran were also raised across party lines. Representative Warren Davidson remarked, “While President Trump’s decision may have its reasons, it’s difficult to see the constitutional justification behind it. I look forward to hearing his explanation.”
Meanwhile, Marjorie Taylor Greene called for unity in prayer for the safety of U.S. military personnel and civilians in the Middle East, adding, “Let’s hope that, after years of open borders and the arrival of over two million people, we aren’t threatened by domestic terrorism.”
She concluded, “Let’s pray for peace.”
