The U.S. military, along with the Trump administration, executed a surprising and strategic strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities Saturday night. This operation caught global attention, especially after Trump indicated that such actions could develop in the coming weeks, not just days.
Trump disclosed the attack via a social media post, which came as a bit of a shock, considering there had been no leaks or prior speculation leading up to the strike. Following his announcement, he gave a brief speech to the public, while key officials like Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses were reportedly in lockdown.
The operation was touted by officials as a significant success, aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities and pushing towards a possible peace agreement. Hegses and other leaders praised the covert nature of the action, which intentionally kept details under wraps.
“From midnight Friday to Saturday morning, a group of B-2 bombers launched from America were deployed,” said Kane during a press conference. “In order to maintain tactical surprises, some of these aircraft headed towards the West and the Pacific as decoys. Only a select few planners and leaders were privy to these deception tactics.”
Six B-2 stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base set off before the strike, according to U.S. Air Force officials. The main strike package consisted of seven B-2 bombers, each crewed by two, that traveled with minimal communication to the target after completing multiple in-flight refueling stops.
Fox News’ Chief National Security Correspondent mentioned that initial reports suggested some misinformation regarding the timing of the strike may have been intentional, casting doubt on whether Trump had delayed the decision.
According to this correspondent, another bomber unit likely deployed east from Whiteman to participate in the operation, maintaining the atmosphere of misdirection.
Hegses revealed that “the operation involved a high level of secrecy and misdirection.” Efforts allowed B-2s to engage with the target without alerting the outside world.
It’s worth noting that this mission was the longest for B-2 bombers since 2001, and according to Hegses and Caine, represents the largest operational strike of its kind in U.S. history.
In the aftermath, Trump addressed the nation, noting that Iran’s nuclear facility has been eliminated completely. He conveyed that Iran must choose peace or face more significant military actions in the future.
“For decades, Iran has called for ‘Death to America, death to Israel,’ and they have caused countless casualties. Our focus was on dismantling their nuclear threat,” Trump stated.
