Former Democratic adviser Dan Trenne criticized his party after referring to Donald Trump’s recent action against Iran, calling it an impeachable offense.

He expressed, “Following our broadcast last night, I found it incredibly disheartening that I needed to pen this. But more Democrats really should acknowledge this isn’t a legitimate crime; when Trump targeted that location, it didn’t necessitate Congressional consent for a single precise strike in that context.”

He also questioned why Democrats wouldn’t celebrate the achievement of neutralizing Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Dan Turrentine shared on X:

After we aired, I found it disheartening to write this, and I went to bed. But I believe it should be voiced more by Democrats: this is not a valid crime. Trump did not need Congressional backing for a precise attack, as Obama didn’t in the case of bin Laden. Why aren’t we saying we’ve accomplished our goals and dismantled Iran’s nuclear capabilities, honoring those who made this happen, and hoping for their safe return? God bless our nation, army, and allies; here’s to a complete debrief. 🇺🇸 If we must now refer to Congressional powers, I would argue that increased actions should require their approval. If there are concerns about where this leads, voice them.

Unfortunately, it seems my party sometimes hesitates to support statements asserting that Iran possesses no nuclear arms.

Ten hours later, many were still discussing this within our party; however, @chuckschumer @senschumer hasn’t made an official statement yet.

Update: He did make one to the media late last night, but it hasn’t appeared on his Senate site or social media. Does he assume that no one will notice?

Dan Trenne was previously an advisor to Hillary Clinton.
