Gunman Identified in Church Shooting in Wayne, Michigan
The Michigan State Police have disclosed the identity of the shooter involved in a church shooting that occurred on Sunday in Wayne, Michigan. The individual has been identified as Brian Anthony Browning, a 31-year-old from Romulus, Michigan, who is now deceased.
Authorities haven’t provided specific insights into Browning’s motives but noted that his mother is affiliated with the church, and he had attended services a couple of times last year.
Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong expressed gratitude for the quick actions of the church staff, stating that their prompt response likely saved many lives and prevented a more extensive tragedy.
Browning was reportedly equipped with an AR-15-style rifle, over a dozen fully loaded magazines, an automatic handgun with an extended magazine, and numerous rounds of ammunition.
Police began receiving calls at around 11:06 AM about a white male suspect dressed in camouflage and wearing a tactical vest. Witnesses observed him behaving suspiciously in the church parking lot before approaching the entrance.
Moments later, additional 911 calls reported gunfire, with a parishioner in a pickup truck colliding with the suspect in the lot.
Authorities indicated that church security acted decisively when they heard gunshots, quickly engaging the shooter. The suspect was shot by a security team member and, despite attempts at resuscitation by arriving officers, was pronounced dead at the scene.
One individual suffered a serious gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, after surgery, the victim is reported to be stable.
Further investigations revealed more firearms and ammunition at Browning’s residence. While there were indications he might have been experiencing a mental health crisis, authorities found no links between this incident and any broader conflicts.
Investigations continue as authorities examine the incident in detail.
