US Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites: Analysts Weigh In

In the aftermath of the US airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, experts suggest that the forthcoming decisions will be crucial in assessing the true impact on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump shared his views through The Truth Society, while his Chief of Staff, Dan Kane, disclosed to reporters that the assessment of the damage is still in progress. He mentioned that the initial findings reveal significant destruction at the three targeted sites but noted that it’s premature to discuss the long-term implications.

A senior Israeli security source commented on the situation, indicating that if hostilities with Israel foster a regime collapse in Iran, the post-war landscape might shift dramatically. “This is a notable development that significantly reduces the threat from Iran and highlights the strong cooperation between Israel and the US,” he said.

General Yossi Cooper Wasser, previously of the IDF Intelligence, emphasized that while significant damage has been inflicted on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, the program is not entirely dismantled. He affirmed that Iran still possesses the means to produce enriched uranium and utilize centrifuges, despite the destruction of some facilities.

Moreover, Kuperwasser pointed out that even as Tehran may have lost some nuclear capabilities, critical strategic aspects are under review. He remarked that the previous methods of sabotage and diplomatic efforts seemed less effective than this recent military action. Should Iran attempt to revive its nuclear program, it’s clear that both the US and Israel stand prepared to respond again swiftly.

Sima Shein, an Iranian expert with a background in Mossad, echoed these sentiments, stating that while Iran’s nuclear capabilities are diminished, they have not been completely eradicated.

She elaborated on the targeted sites of the US strike—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordau—also mentioning that Iran has reportedly dispersed enriched uranium across various undisclosed locations.

If negotiations occur in the future, Shein believes that full disclosure of remaining nuclear materials must be a prerequisite. Mark Dubowitz, head of the Foundation for Democracy and Defense, argued that the remaining Iranian nuclear facilities require comprehensive dismantling and inspection to ensure Iran cannot rebuild its program.

Amos Yadrin, a former Israeli intelligence director, described the American strikes as a substantial turning point that alters the geopolitical landscape, sending clear messages to major powers like China and Russia. However, he expressed concern that Iran’s nuclear program remains viable, stressing that they face a dilemma: whether to retaliate or shift their nuclear policy without dragging the US further into conflict.

Shein noted a possible Iranian response could manifest through proxies or through aggressive actions in the Gulf. “There’s a constant tug-of-war here,” she mentioned, referring to the delicate balance Iran must maintain with Gulf neighbors while navigating its responses.

In conclusion, while there are significant developments following the strikes, the path forward is fraught with complexities, and clear strategies are necessary to ensure a lasting resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
