Violent Resistance to Immigration Enforcement Increasing
As the Trump administration intensifies its efforts to enforce immigration laws, reports of violent resistance are becoming more frequent. However, certain media outlets appear to be presenting a narrowed view of incidents, focusing on portraying undocumented individuals and their supporters in a more favorable light.
Recently, a suspect identified as Narcisso Baranco was arrested by US Border Patrol agents, as confirmed by his family. This incident took place in Santa Ana.
According to reports, one of Baranco’s sons stated he was “picked up” while working as a landscaper at an IHOP on Edinger Avenue. It seems that during the encounter, Baranco wielded a weed whacker against the agents.
Local media, like KTLA, labeled Baranco as a “victim,” emphasizing his status as a father.
KTLA also suggested that the U.S. Border Patrol’s actions were questionable, claiming that federal agents apprehended Baranco with excessive force while he was approached by individuals in masks who identified themselves as border patrol agents.
A DHS spokesperson mentioned that reports of an officer’s injury were inaccurate, asserting the officer received medical attention but declined further care. The suspect is now in ICE custody.
In response to a KTLA post, the DHS account expressed concern over the portrayal of the incident, pointing out that Baranco attacked government officials and questioning if the media expected agents to be passive while facing threats.
The DHS reiterated its dedication to upholding immigration laws despite a staggering rise of 500% in assaults against law enforcement during operations.
A GoFundMe page was created to support Baranco’s legal defense, characterizing him as a hard worker and family man who has lived in the area. The fundraising efforts have reportedly exceeded $95,000 since launching.
Attempts to reach KTLA for more information have not yielded a response as of yet.
