Twelve House Democrats Support Military Resolution Following US Strike on Iran

A group of twelve House Democrats, all veterans, have voiced their endorsement for a military resolution following the recent US airstrikes against Iran.

In a joint statement, they expressed, “We write first as patriots who love our country. Each of us wore uniforms with pride. We’re committed to protecting our fellow Americans and advocating for our constitution.”

They also extended gratitude to the troops, thanking those involved from B-2 pilots to personnel stationed in Central Command areas. “We will also write as veterans,” they noted.

The letter addressed to President Trump includes signatures from Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.), Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.), Eugene Vindman (D-Va.), Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.), Bobby Scott (D-Va.), Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.), Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.), and Ted Lieu (D-Calif.).

President Trump announced on Saturday that the US had bombed three Iranian nuclear sites, escalating the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel that has intensified this month.

Last week, Thomas Massey (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) put forth a resolution concerning war powers.

The lawmakers emphasized in their letter, “We must remain steadfast with our Israeli allies, providing strong support for the defense of Israel and its people. However, it’s crucial to clarify that US-led military operations against Iran, including the recent airstrikes, are distinct.”

They reiterated their commitment to the Constitution, stating, “We’ve all taken an oath to support and defend it. Article 1, Section 8 clearly mandates that Congress must vote to declare war. Acknowledging this responsibility, we fully back the Forces Resolution.”

In response to inquiries, the White House referred to a social media post from Trump, which stated, “It is fully agreed that there will be a complete ceasefire between Israel and Iran.”
