Tyrese Halliburton Reflects on Achilles Injury
Tyrese Halliburton commented publicly for the first time on Monday night, following his Achilles tear during Game 7 of the NBA Finals the day before.
“Honestly, I’m in shock,” Halliburton shared on X. “The pain of disappointment is hard to put into words. It’s incredibly frustrating.”
He went on to express disbelief at how often people say they’ll return stronger after surgery. “My legs feel completely dead right now,” he added.
During the first quarter, Halliburton fell to the ground in pain while trying to drive to the basket, visibly distressed as he pounded the floor in agony.
His team, the Pacers, quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game, which they lost 103-91 to Oklahoma City.
The extent of his injury was confirmed the following morning.
“At just 25, I’ve learned to not take on more than I can handle,” Halliburton reflected. “I know I’ll come back as a better person and player. And despite this setback, I don’t regret anything.”
“Indy, I’m sorry,” he added, addressing fans. “You all deserve better than this. But we’re going to fight hard to return to this place and overcome this hurdle together. I hope you can feel my commitment and drive.”
Halliburton, who had scored nine points before the injury, was playing despite dealing with tension in his right calf. This decision could jeopardize his finances for the next season.
“Reaching this point in my career wasn’t random. Every day, I pushed myself to excel,” he affirmed. “I’m thankful—thankful for the journey, the support from the basketball community. I don’t feel like I need to go through this part of the process, but here we are.”
