Professor Accused of Stalking Near Penn State
A research professor at Penn State University has reportedly been accused of stalking after his family provided surveillance footage to the police.
Anoop Narayanan, a 50-year-old from Pennsylvania, was denied bail on June 16 due to allegations of “wandering around at night,” which resulted in ongoing stalking fears. According to court documents released on Sunday, he is set to appear in a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Officers from the Patton Township Police responded to a complaint on June 15 regarding someone allegedly looking through a resident’s windows. Upon arrival, they found both Narayanan and the complainant in the parking lot, as detailed by Officer Elijah Waltzel.
Residents accused Narayanan of frequently visiting the building, and they shared surveillance footage with the police. He claimed this behavior stemmed from concern for his family. In the footage observed by law enforcement, Narayanan appeared to be leaning towards the victim’s window and attempted to avoid triggering motion-activated lights.
Narayanan is a research professor specializing in biochemistry and molecular biology at Penn State. Court records indicate that he had appeared near the residence on June 8 and previously on April 25, which is noted as the date of the initial complaint.
After being informed of his Miranda rights, Narayanan allegedly stated to police that he did not reside in the building but enjoyed walking there. Law enforcement then displayed the footage to him, leading to his arrest.
While being handcuffed, he purportedly apologized to the complainant and admitted to observing children in the area.
No response was received when Narayanan’s office was contacted for comment.
