Are We Returning to the Same Foolish Tactics? Newt Gingrich Cautions on Ceasefire

Newt Gingrich’s Warning on Iran Ceasefire

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich expressed concerns on Fox Business regarding the implications of a ceasefire with Iran, advising the U.S. to steer clear of previous missteps.

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel and Iran had reached a “full ceasefire.” However, Iran launched a missile at Israel on Tuesday, suggesting tensions remain high. During his appearance on “Kudrow,” Gingrich highlighted that the coming weeks are critical for establishing firm limits on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its support for terrorism.

“I think it’s a matter of life and death from both an Israeli and an American perspective. If Iran acquires nuclear weapons and strategic missiles, it’s really a serious situation. The next few weeks are crucial,” Gingrich told host Larry Kudrow.

Reflecting on his past diplomatic strategies, Gingrich expressed dissatisfaction, asserting that Iran has used negotiations to deceive the U.S. while advancing its nuclear capabilities.

“Are we going to fall back into the same old routine of talking to Iranian leaders like previous presidents did? Do they tell us the truth? There’s a risk we might avoid breaking the ceasefire, leaning into their lies,” he stated.

Gingrich voiced his opposition to a ceasefire that allows Iran to continue financing terrorism and promoting anti-Israel and anti-American sentiments while secretly aiming to develop nuclear weapons.

“If the Iranian regime is allowed to keep funding terrorism and loudly calling for the destruction of Israel and America, I oppose any ceasefire that supports their hidden nuclear ambitions,” he added.

This statement follows a U.S. military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on Sunday, utilizing large precision ordnance including 14 GBU-57s, carried out by seven B-2A Spirit bombers after a 37-hour mission.

This operation came after Israeli military actions against Iranian nuclear sites ten days earlier, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile strikes on Israeli cities and a refusal to resume discussions on its nuclear goals.
