Tom Homan’s Struggles with Death Threats
Tom Homan, known for his role in border security under the Trump administration, revealed on Wednesday that he’s currently living apart from his wife due to death threats aimed at him and his family. This situation, he described as “outrageous,” has altered his family life significantly.
Since taking on a high-profile position in the Trump administration, Homan has mostly been away from his spouse. He explained, “My wife now lives apart from me, not just because of her work hours, but mainly due to the death threat against me. She’s in a different location. I try to see her as often as possible, but it’s just tough.”
Insights from Trump’s Inner Circle
Other top aides from the Trump administration shared perspectives on how arduous this new role has been for Homan and his family connections. Homan previously served as the acting director, but after being nominated for a permanent role, he decided to retire amidst critique from lawmakers.
He recounted a pivotal moment when he got a surprising call from Trump, who offered him the role of “border emperor.” At the time, he was having dinner with his wife. When he saw “Potus” on the caller ID, his wife wondered if Trump was inviting him back. Homan recalled, “The first thing he told me was, ‘You’ve been talking about this for four years; now go back and fix it.’ What could I say? No?”
Since stepping into this position, data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicates a continued surge in border crossings. It’s a challenging environment, and Homan’s situation seemingly reflects the broader pressures faced by those in public service today.
