Kamala Harris' stepdaughter discusses her 'trauma' during the vote for Mamdani

Ella Emov Reflects on Voting Experience

On Tuesday, Ella Emov, the stepdaughter of former Vice President Kamala Harris, took to Instagram to share her feelings about the “slight trauma” she experienced while heading to vote in the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City. Emov noted that she was casting her vote at the same location where she had previously voted for her stepmother, who faced a significant loss in the November 2024 elections.

“I feel a bit traumatized walking to the same voting station I went to vote for Kamala, and I just feel a lot of hope,” she expressed in a now-expired Instagram Story video.

Apart from her personal reflections, Emov mentioned a mix of emotions while wearing an “I voted” sticker. She remarked, “New York gathers like this and gathers behind Zoran,” referring to Zoran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate she supported.

Emov attended Mamdani’s primary watch party, alongside other notable figures like “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon and actor Kalpen.

The unofficial results of the primary suggest a victory for Mamdani, who acknowledged support from former governor Andrew Cuomo, a significant competitor in the race.

Earlier in May, Emov publicly endorsed Mamdani in a video filmed at a Brooklyn venue, stating, “I will hand the phone to the next mayor of New York City,” adding optimism about enhancing the city’s quality of life.

For several weeks, Emov has been active on social media, promoting Mamdani’s campaign. She urged followers to support him and not to vote for Cuomo.

Mamdani’s proposals, which include free public transportation and establishing grocery stores under city control, have drawn criticism from Republicans. They label him as radical, with some even accusing him of anti-Semitism. Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) condemned him as “extreme” and “communist.”

Official major election results from the New York City Election Commission are anticipated to be released on July 1.
