Anthony Bernal, a senior adviser to Jill Biden, has chosen not to testify in the House Oversight Committee’s investigation regarding former President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities. He declined to take part in a scheduled interview set for June 26 as part of this inquiry, which also focuses on potential misuse of authority by Committee Chairman James Comer.
Comer criticized Bernal for his refusal to cooperate, suggesting that it shows a lack of accountability, especially now that certain executive privileges have been waived. He stated that it’s now clear that Bernal, often referred to as Jill Biden’s “work husband,” does not intend to be transparent about the claims surrounding Joe Biden’s cognitive decline.
Comer emphasized the need for answers, saying, “The American people deserve accountability, and we will not accept this obstruction.” He also brought up previous testimony from Neera Tanden, a former White House staff secretary, who indicated that although she had significant authority, her interactions with Biden were limited.
Bernal had previously committed to participating in a transcribed interview, but it seems his legal team has reversed that decision following the waiver of enforcement privileges affecting nine other former aides. This investigation into Biden’s fitness for office continues with more scheduled testimonies.
