Florida Operation Recovers 60 Missing Children

On Monday, the U.S. Marshals Service announced a significant operation, dubbed Dragon Eye, which aimed to locate missing children in Florida. This two-week effort had three main goals: to rescue missing children, offer necessary services, and apprehend individuals involved in harmful activities.

“Many of these kids have faced really difficult situations, but today we managed to bring them to safety, and now we can focus on their recovery,” stated an attorney involved in the operation.

Working alongside 20 various government entities, the U.S. Marshals reported that the Tampa Bay Area Mission successfully rescued 60 children classified as “seriously missing,” many of whom were at risk of severe crimes, including potential exploitation and domestic violence.

The operation led to the arrest of eight individuals on multiple charges, such as human trafficking and drug possession. Their bail amounts varied significantly, with some set at no bond at all while others reached $250 million.

During a press conference, Attorney General James Usmeer emphasized the scale of the initiative, calling it “the most extensive child rescue effort in Florida’s history and the entire United States.” He shared that some of the children rescued were victims of trafficking.

“While we must tread carefully due to the sensitive nature of these victims, the recovery of 60 missing children and the arrest of predators signals a milestone for the U.S. Marshals and their mission,” Usmeer added.

In this operation, minors aged 9 to 17 received crucial medical attention, psychological support, and proper placement to aid in their recovery.

Callahan Walsh, the executive director of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, praised the collaborative effort: “This operation showcases what’s possible when agencies come together to protect children.” Walsh expressed pride in supporting the U.S. services and emphasized the importance of providing critical support to the affected children.
