Stephen Curry's father shares the timeline of the Warriors star's NBA career

Stephen Curry’s Future in the NBA

As soon as Stephen Curry decides to step away from the NBA, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will surely reach out to him—no doubt about that.

Curry hit the big 3-7 milestone in March, and he’s gearing up for his 17th season with the Golden State Warriors this fall. But, you know, if you were thinking he’d retire soon, his father has some different thoughts on that.

Del Curry, a former NBA player, believes his son might be able to play “well into his 40s.” It’s interesting because he mentioned that Curry’s decision will be vital. “I think it’ll be his choice when to leave,” Del said. There’s a common scenario where players hang on until a team decides they’re no longer needed. Del feels confident Stephen could stick around for longer than expected, especially with his shooting skills and the need to manage his game as he ages.

Curry has made quite an impression in the league, racking up records and currently reigning as the greatest three-point shooter in NBA history. The way he shoots has really changed how the game is played.

He apparently wants to wrap up his professional career with the Warriors, the only team he’s ever played for. Del pointed out that Stephen’s competitive spirit remains strong, adding a personal touch: “He still has those competitive juices. They’re far from leaving him. He has a game, he has a will.” It’s an interesting perspective, really—he’s 37 now, yet it feels like there’s a lot of years left in his game.

The Warriors recently advanced to the Western Conference Finals, and for those curious, Curry’s contract extends until the end of the 2025-26 season. It certainly makes one wonder how much longer he’ll keep dazzling fans on the court.
