Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo Spreads a Social Message on Instagram

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star player for the Milwaukee Bucks, recently posted a striking message on Instagram, wearing a shirt that read, “protect children who don’t protect their guns.” This post coincided with ongoing trade speculations surrounding him.

The timing of this message is particularly notable as June has been recognized as National Gun Violence Awareness Month. The post has certainly garnered attention, highlighting Antetokounmpo’s dedication to social advocacy within the NBA.

Overall, the league has a history of endorsing measures for stricter gun control. In fact, in the past, Antetokounmpo has made headlines for wearing gun control-themed apparel, like during warm-ups in Thousand Oaks, California, when he played against the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers. Looking ahead, the NBA plans to feature gun safety advertisements from Everytown on Christmas, which will include prominent players like Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, and Joakim Noah.

In 2022, following a tragic shooting in Sacramento that resulted in six fatalities, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr called for renewed efforts toward gun control. He remarked that mere moments of silence would not suffice and emphasized the need for common-sense gun laws, which although not a comprehensive solution, could certainly save lives.
