Bill Hader has some tea to spill about Martin Kove.
More than ten years ago, the “Cobra Kai” actor, now 78, had a memorable encounter with Hader, who is 47. This came to light during Hader’s appearance on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast, where he recounted a rather odd experience involving Kove at a recent fan convention.
In a 2013 episode, Hader reminisced about how, at just 20, he was responsible for transporting actors to set. On one occasion, he was assigned to bring Kove to the filming location.
“I was driving him in my beat-up car, and he purposely lost me,” Hader said, adding that Kove hadn’t even read the script yet, which led him to misdirect the “Barry” star.
Hader mentioned telling his boss that he “screamed” when they arrived late.
“It was a rough day,” Hader recalled, but it didn’t end there.
He continued, “On the ride home, it’s dark, and we’re on the highway. He suddenly asks me, ‘Bill, are you mad at me?'”
After that, Kove insisted on making a stop at McDonald’s, promising Hader a cookie and a milkshake.
“He returns with chocolate cookies and milkshakes,” Hader remembered. “Then he just sits back and says, ‘Now, let’s go.’ It was such a mind mess.”
Hader described the moment as a peculiar scenario, saying, “It felt like, ‘I’m going to get this from you.’ He just ate it in front of me, and I drove home in silence.”
He referred to the interaction as his “welcome to Hollywood” moment, noting he had to keep driving Kove for several more days.
“I didn’t talk to him after that,” Hader added. “I just stared ahead a bit.”
Despite Kove’s behavior, Hader seemed willing to overlook it.
“I heard he might be going through a divorce, or something’s up with him,” Hader shared. “He could be a nice guy, but I might have rubbed him the wrong way. I really don’t know what’s going on.”
Kove’s representatives were contacted for comment on the matter.
Recently, Kove was accused of biting Alicia Hannah Kim, 37, during a fan convention in Washington state.
Kim, known for her role as Kim Da Eun in seasons 5 and 6 of “Cobra Kai,” claimed the incident occurred when she playfully tapped Kove on the shoulder at the cast booth, according to police reports. Reports from various sources confirm this.
When asked about the biting incident, Kove reportedly acknowledged his actions but claimed it was intended as a joke.
“He thought he was being funny. They mess around a lot on the ‘Cobra Kai’ set, so he didn’t see it as serious,” the report stated.
Kim’s accusations led to Kove being removed from the fan event.
Kove later issued a public apology for the incident in a statement provided to TMZ.
“I sincerely regret and apologize for my actions regarding the incident with Alicia, a truly wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be put in this position,” he stated.
