When PETA president Brittany Peet watched “Tiger King” on Netflix, her feelings weren’t exactly warm and fuzzy.
She mentioned visiting Joe’s roadside zoo multiple times and noted the overwhelming smell of urine at the facility. During a segment on “Primetime with Alex Stein,” she expressed concern for the animals, stating that they should have been roaming free, not confined like prisoners—just like Joe Exotic himself, who is currently behind bars.
Peet’s allegations paint a troubling picture. However, Stein offered Joe an opportunity to defend himself from his incarceration.
“Well, my zoo was next to a horse farm where there were 200 horses, and you can imagine the mess,” Exotic replied. “They didn’t have a trash can—some cages were up to two acres.”
Exotic also took a jab at Peet, suggesting she reflect on her actions concerning his animals after the tragic death of his staff member, Travis, in October 2017. He claimed she relocated many of his animals from the zoo during that time, enabling him to shut it down. “Why isn’t Jeff Lowe in jail? He was up to no good too,” he added.
To that, Peet concurred, agreeing that Jeff Lowe deserves to be incarcerated alongside Exotic, citing his mistreatment of animals.
Then, with a hint of skepticism, Peet responded to Exotic’s question about PETA’s euthanasia practices. “The numbers are pretty accessible online, but honestly, PETA serves as a last resort for many. We’re transparent about the small number of euthanasias we perform,” she clarified.
“And I don’t feel guilty about a documented animal abuser being behind bars for his actions,” she concluded.
