Trump Mobile Adjusts Messaging on Production
Trump Mobile, a new initiative from the Trump organization, has changed its messaging on the production of its smartphones. Initially, a press release stated that the Golden T1 phones would be “designed and built in the United States.” The company’s official website also promoted the phone as “made in America.” However, this wording has since been removed.
Now, the focus is on marketing the $499 phone as “designed with American values in mind.” One section of the site claims, “The T1 phone is not just powerful, it’s lively here in America. With an American hand behind every device, we bring attention to every detail, accuracy, and reliable quality.”
When Trump Mobile was announced last week, experts raised concerns about the feasibility of manufacturing smartphones in the U.S., pointing out that similar attempts by other companies have faced significant challenges.
Major smartphone makers, like Apple and Samsung, typically depend on supply chains that extend through Asia. Shifting production to the U.S. could be a costly and lengthy process.
To label its phones as made in the U.S., Trump Mobile would have to comply with stringent standards from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), stipulating that most or all components must be sourced domestically.
Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, expressed confidence about U.S. manufacturing during a recent podcast appearance. He emphasized a commitment to American production, aligning with his father’s political priorities.
“We can build these phones in the U.S.,” Trump Jr. noted. “We can make it cheaper. We can make it better. Ultimately, all phones can be built in the United States. We have to get back production here.”
Requests for comments from both Trump Mobile and the Trump organization have gone unanswered.
