It’s pretty interesting, really.
Luke Clanton has recently embarked on his professional golf journey, and within just a month, he’s already looking up to a superstar like Scotty Scheffler. Considering Scheffler is currently the top player in the world, it seems like a solid choice. However, it’s not just about Scheffler’s game; what really resonates with Clanton is Scheffler’s belief that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.
Scheffler has openly shared his Christian faith as a cornerstone of his life, emphasizing that it shapes his identity more than golf does. Clanton, inspired by this philosophy, has decided to embrace a similar outlook as he begins his own professional career. If someone had told him a few years ago that he’d be adopting this mindset, he would have likely thought they were a bit off.
Once the world’s top amateur golfer, Clanton recently sat down for an interview with Golf, where he discussed his Christian faith and recounted a transformative experience that brought him closer to Christ while in Florida.
“I was raised in a Christian home—my mom and dad were believers, and my sisters were too. But in high school, I had a lot of doubts and even identified as an atheist. I wasn’t convinced about anything,” Clanton explained.
He then shared a moment that changed everything: “One day, after leaving class early, I passed by a guy who looked homeless. I almost walked around him when he asked, ‘Are you okay?’ I responded, ‘Yeah, I’m fine.’” He continued, “As I walked away, he called out again, ‘Are you okay?’ So, I turned back, saying I didn’t need help. That’s when he pulled out a Bible and handed it to me, saying, ‘Jesus loves you.’”
“It was such a pivotal moment for me. I had been thinking about Jesus a lot lately, and this encounter felt surreal,” he added.
God is good, amen.
