Incident at Popeyes Leads to Gunfire in New Jersey

There are reports indicating that employees at a Popeyes in New Jersey may have fired shots at a vehicle, injuring the driver. This incident occurred on June 9th at the Mays Landing location, where an 18-year-old named Christian Ruiz allegedly became involved in a confrontation with a group of six people in the parking lot.

A worker from the fast food restaurant is said to have been injured in the face, neck, and head during the altercation. According to reports, Ruiz reportedly shot into the car and struck the driver in the head, as tensions escalated following a vacation taken by the crew.

The driver was subsequently transported to the Atlantic Regional Medical Center for treatment of a head injury.

Ruiz was arrested on June 10 after seeking medical attention for his injuries. His attorneys claim that a confrontation occurred between him and a group shortly after the restaurant had closed. One of Ruiz’s attorneys, John Zaleach, mentioned that Ruiz had expressed a desire for revenge against those he believed had damaged his car.

As the court heard, Judge Joseph Levin acknowledged the seriousness of gang-related violence but criticized the response of using firearms, calling it an “unbalanced use of force.” Ruiz was released from custody and will remain free until his trial.

Surprisingly, some coworkers described Ruiz as a dedicated employee, noting he had never missed a shift. However, he now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and related offenses. Attempts to reach comments from Ruiz’s attorney or the local police department were unsuccessful.
