Hollywood Celebrities Condemn Medicaid and Food Stamp Cuts
Dozens of celebrities from Hollywood expressed their strong disapproval on Wednesday regarding the Republican proposals to reduce funding for Medicaid and food stamps.
An open letter addressed to Congress noted, “The ongoing high grocery costs mean food is out of reach for many families, and many of our neighbors are simply not getting enough to eat.” This sentiment reflects a growing concern among the public.
“We are urging Congress not to cut these vital programs that help millions of individuals secure food and access healthcare,” the letter further emphasized.
Prominent figures such as Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Michelle Williams, and Rosario Dawson, along with the nonprofit organization America, have rallied to call for a rejection of any reforms to these programs.
The letter underscored, “This is unacceptable and wrong. It’s not the way we should treat each other, especially in tough times. We need Congress to maintain support for these essential services.”
As lawmakers prepare for a vote on Trump’s significant legislative measures this weekend, the pressure is mounting.
President Trump has been advocating for the elimination of federal health programs, citing concerns over waste, fraud, and abuse within these systems.
“It’s all about addressing waste and ensuring no one is harmed in the process. Everyone agrees on that,” Trump remarked to reporters following a discussion with Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri.
Hawley later noted, “We had a productive conversation with President Trump about the comprehensive bill. He reiterated that Medicaid benefits will not be cut.”
Despite this, there remains considerable backing for the initiative to eliminate waste in federal health programs.
A poll released in March by the Paragon Health Institute revealed that about two-thirds of Americans support Congress in addressing waste, fraud, and abuse in healthcare systems.
Sixty-six percent of respondents agreed that “Congress should scrutinize all federal health programs to ensure taxpayer money is wisely spent, which would help protect crucial services.”
Reports from Breitbart News indicate that experts believe Medicaid has made over $1.1 trillion in improper payments in the last decade.
Furthermore, internal polling conducted by Breitbart News in May indicated that an overwhelming 86% of Americans favored eliminating waste in Medicaid.
