Rep. Cammack Discusses Death Threats Following Ectopic Pregnancy Disclosure
Rep. Kat Cammack from Florida recently shared her troubling experience of receiving death threats from pro-abortion activists after she publicly detailed her life-threatening ectopic pregnancy in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
On “Fox & Friends First,” Cammack explained that after her revelations, she found herself targeted. Last May, the situation in Florida became quite alarming, as medical professionals appeared hesitant to treat serious pregnancy complications due to the state’s stringent abortion laws.
She recounted how it took several days for her to understand the full extent of her condition, initially misdiagnosed as a miscarriage. “I realized I was dealing with something much more rare,” she shared.
Despite Florida’s abortion laws allowing for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and threats to the mother’s life, Cammack expressed frustration that her doctors feared losing their licenses or facing imprisonment, which delayed necessary care. “I found myself reading the law to them while I was on the table,” she said, emphasizing the anxiety many women face when seeking medical help.
After her appearance in the Wall Street Journal, Cammack’s office started receiving numerous threats, culminating in an evacuation. One particularly chilling message read, “If you don’t survive, we’ll be better. The only good Republican is a dead Republican.”
Cammack shared that the barrage of threats included thousands of intimidating phone calls and over thirty “credible” death threats since she brought her story to light. “It’s horrifying to think people would suggest something like roasting a fetus,” she noted, rather shocked by the extremity of the messages she received.
She reflected on the intense negativity and the unwillingness of some to confront the real issues at hand. Cammack believes her experiences underscore not only a “literacy crisis” in America but also a fundamental misunderstanding of women’s health care needs.
