Kamala Harris: Future Political Moves Under Scrutiny
Kamala Harris finds herself at a complex crossroads: Will she aim for the presidency again, facing likely failure? Or maybe she’ll pursue a lower-stakes gubernatorial run in California, which could be more successful? There’s even the chance she could step away from politics altogether, perhaps to enjoy a lucrative book deal or podcast.
Harris appears to be putting considerable focus on the California governor’s race. Given her public image, there’s a chance she may head that direction. Some wealthy donors and Democratic insiders have offered flattering remarks about her, but many seem less than enthusiastic.
This week’s quote:
“Kamala reminds us that we are in this complete storm,” stated a Democratic donor from California, who supported her campaign financially.
California donors are lukewarm toward Harris: “No one’s overly excited.”
“It’s a complete mess right now. I think we did what we could have done under the circumstances, but she’s aware of the cognitive issues at play,” expressed a frustrated donor. They managed to push funds into her campaign primarily due to their disdain for the Trump administration, but now feel disillusioned.
Another donor reflected, “It feels like we’re just trying to back a candidate no one really wants to hear from again. People are asking, ‘Are you familiar with Joe Biden?’” According to them, Harris will still have a leading role, but enthusiasm is lacking.
“Initially, there was more excitement,” commented a previous Harris campaign fundraiser. “But now, it feels a bit diminished.”
Opinions vary. Some insist she should pursue another run, saying she’d excel, while others suggest she shouldn’t—with advice to focus on building a legacy outside politics.
“She’s having discussions with people in the state about a potential run,” a seasoned Democratic donor noted. “If that’s the case, she’s facing a tough road ahead.”
Another donor remarked that enthusiasm is hard to find, admitting it’s challenging to gauge whether she genuinely wants this. “She has to earn the nomination,” they added.
As it stands, Harris likely would be better off not making another bid for the presidency. After her losses in 2024, recent studies indicate that her standing has even decreased, especially since Trump may appeal more to voters when turnout is low. If Harris stumbles in the governor’s race or considers walking away from it all, it might be a relief for many.
