Anthony Ramos and Sunny Hostin Discover Family Connection on The View
During a recent appearance on The View, Anthony Ramos, famous for his role in Iron Heart, found himself facing some surprising news: he and host Sunny Hostin are actually related.
As Hostin welcomed Ramos, he joked about feeling like he was on a “hot seat.” Hostin shared that their connection was uncovered while they participated in the PBS series Find Your Roots, stating, “We are cousins and we are descendants of royalty.” This revelation seemed to excite both of them.
“So you guys are super cool,” chimed in co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, to which Ramos explained their lineage traces back to Perinor, the indigenous king of the Canary Islands, noting that they “erased 16 generations” in the process.
Joy Behar called the news “glamorous,” while Griffin made a light-hearted comment about Hostin’s ancestry. Hostin had previously appeared on the PBS series in 2024, where she discovered more about her roots, including being 7% Indigenous Puerto Rican and a descendant of Spanish slave owners.
Addressing the backlash she faced online after her appearance, Hostin expressed her initial disappointment upon learning about her lineage tied to slave owners. Still, she firmly believes in reparations, stating, “People can text me, email me, and say I’m a white girl who doesn’t deserve reparations—that’s too many, folks.”
Excited about her newfound connection to Ramos, Hostin remarked, “I have a cousin, Whoopi! Isn’t he cute?” She recalled having interviewed him before realizing they were family.
This episode of The View is set to air on ABC on weekdays beginning November 10th.
