Florida Officials Anticipate Influx of New Yorkers
Officials in Florida are optimistic that more New Yorkers will consider relocating to the state, as Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) suggested in a recent interview on Breitbart News Daily.
During the conversation, host Mike Slater referred to comments made by Governor Ron DeSantis about an increase in New York residents moving to Florida. When asked if they expect this trend to continue, Patronis responded affirmatively, saying, “Yeah, we will.”
He pointed out that last year saw 400,000 new residents from Netflix, referring to the significant departures from places like California. This has resulted in an estimated loss of around $11 billion in wealth.
Patronis also highlighted Florida’s absence of an income tax and expressed concerns about the adverse effect of residents leaving Blue states, which depend heavily on tax income to function.
“They keep doing these things, half-hearted leaders you know, and it creates a vicious cycle where people are driven away based on the policies they implement on their government,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he commented on the rise of Zoran Mamdani, a race and democratic socialist from New York City, who has publicly called to “refund the police.” Patronis, drawing from his experience as Florida’s chief financial officer, outlined what residents want: “You want a good school, you want a good quality job, you want positive development, a lovely place to shop, and bring your kids to a lovely place. It needs to be safe. That means that safety net should be supported 24/7.” He added, “If it’s not safe, people won’t invest. If they don’t invest, they won’t be going to stay, so this is exactly what it is – that’s a shame.”
“New York is one of the greatest cities in the world. It has given so many opportunities – so many things – and that these issues come and take the lead only destroys that city. The wealth goes, and the good people leave. And you know, they come to Florida and they bring their money and their ideas and their work together.”
