The recent legislation, referred to by President Trump as the “big beautiful bill,” is being hailed as a crucial financial relief for firefighters. A video released by the White House highlights its potential impact.
The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has expressed strong support for the historic tax cuts included in this multi-billion dollar bill. They believe it will significantly benefit working families, especially its 350,000 members.
According to them, “This bill aims to positively influence the lives of working families across the U.S., particularly our seniors. Social Security and our dedicated firefighters are clearly laboring beyond overtime.”
Notably, Chris Bartley, the IAFF’s political program coordinator, remarked that Trump’s initiative to eliminate overtime taxes could allow firefighters to earn more money. This could be a game-changer for many.
Scott Robison, an associate director at the IAFF, praised the President for alleviating some pressures on labor firefighters. He pointed out a tax credit of up to $8,000 available for childcare and those working from home.
White House spokesman Taylor Rogers emphasized the dedication of firefighters, stating, “They protect our families and communities, often working long hours and being away from their loved ones for extended periods.”
Further aligning with this sentiment, the IAFF has reiterated their commitment to supporting firefighters through significant tax cuts, including the elimination of overtime taxes. They believe it’s the least lawmakers can do for these public servants.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are actively working over the weekend to advance a substantial tax and spending bill, with significant votes anticipated by Saturday noon.
